I was a Crew Chief from the inception 1964, through September 1965, of Co A 501st with Capt Henderson as the CO. Anyone else out there that was there at the same time. Historically there is a lot of information missing on the site from this period of time. Bien Hoa was attacked soon after we arrived and destroyed much of the flight line to include all of the B-57 Camberra's. at the time it was reported as a bomb defusing accident, however the history books show it as a motar attack. Also, 2 helicopters collided over the airbase in 1965 with only one survivor and 18 dead. I performed med evac that morning but the only survivor was a crew chief. Does anyone know his name. He was severly injured as he was blown out of the aircraft at 300 feet (harness did not hold him or he would have died). He broke his back but survived after a long recovery period. Would like to get in youch with him. Also, I have about 1200 pictures from this era and would love to share them with anyone that is interested. I also have made a DVD video from these pictures if anyone would like a copy! Regards, Stan Slaton

Phone message received from Rick Webster, who used to live in Bay St. Louis, MS until the hurricane came through. Rick and his family rode out the storm in Alabama. His street was under 9 feet of water which destroyed everything. No flood insurance and because of this Rick said FEMA will not help him????? But they all survived.

My father was in Chu Lai in 1970 - 1971 serving as an MP. His name was "Ron Brown". I looked to see his photo, but didn't find it. Anyhow he has a ton of photographs and letters written back to home about the various goings-on around the Chu Lai area. He escorted convoys over the various roads up as far as Da Nang. So he is very familiar with Tam Ky, Baldy, Hawk Hill, etc. He was in Chu Lai the day Mary Ann was attacked by saffers. They made him pull bodies off of the rattlers comiming in. The first time I ever heard him talk about it was after showing him your website. It was still a very powerful and emotional experience for him, even to this day. I'm thankful that we could share that moment as father and son. Anyway, I'm using Google Earth to try to map out various points around Chu Lai. I've created a file that tells Google Earth where to find these various firebases. This is kinda difficult, as there are no hi-res photos of vietnam in Google Earth yet. However the rivers, mountains, railroads, and roads are quite visible. Populated areas seem to be labeled as well. Being a pilot in training myself, it would be helpful if someone who is familiar with the land from the arial view to double check the placement of my placemarks. Dad knows the points up and down Highway 1 for the most part. The other stuff is a little more difficult to place.
