A research was conducted concerning the previous message. The accident occurred on 28 May 1965 when two 118th AHC aircraft had a mid-air. Thirteen men died and one crew chief, Stephen Kartak, survived after being thrown clear of the crash. Kartak had severe injuries but survived and I talked with him today, putting him in contact with Stan Slaton. The 118th AHC and Co. A/501st AVN. BN. shared living space in Bailey Compound for the enlisted men and at the Villa, downtown Bien Hoa for the pilots. For that reason it would be easy to mistake someone you might see regularly in the company area or at "The Gunslingers Club" there at Bailey Compound as being in our unit.
