Comment: Ned called me one night but I was not there to take the call. I return-called the next morning and his wife answered and asked why I called. After telling her that I saw his number on my answering machine from the night before, she told me that Ned took his life. I knew he had serious chronic back pain for decades. I guess he just couldn’t take it anymore. Damn, I wish I was there to take that call …

Comment: Ned was one of the older door gunners. He took many a pilot under his wings and took care of us. Ned was responsible for finding me and gettin me into the association. He was one of the best gunners the Firebirds had. He would do anything to protect his aircraft and his pilots.
