I read Don lynam's letter about the passing of Will Fortenberry. I was shocked to the point of tears because he was a very good friend. One of the best crew chiefs I've ever met. I flew with Will as his gunner into LZ Delta, with Mr. Michael Carlisle as Pilot and a couple more times at Lam-son 719. My condolencences to his wife and family and may he RIP. Always a brother "D"

Earlier this week I got an e-mail informing me of the passing of my Crew Chief, Will Fortenbeery on August 30th. I do not have any details of his passing. Will attended the first two days of our last reunion. My wife and I enjoyed talking with him and meeting his two children. I'll always remember Will as a young man with flaming red hair and a warm southern drawl that reminded me of our home state, Louisiana. I was lucky to have flown with him and was always impressed on how well he maintained his aircraft. It was a source of pride with him. Several months ago I was watching Viet Nam war history program on the History Channel and kept seeing flight scenes that looked very familiar. I finally realized that I was looking at film shot from Will Super-8 camera the he carried on a lot of our missions. At the end of the program Will's name was in the credits. I have thought of Will often over the years and I will miss him. Please keep him and his family in your prayers. Don

Hey All, I received an e-mail from Martha Knox widow of Steve Knox 65-66. Steve passed due to brain cancer, He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005 and received treatment in Boston and was receiving what sounds like 10% disability $96.00 per month. Brain Cancer was identified and proved fatal after that. Martha had a hearing with the VA on 8/29/12 seeking benefits other than the 10% that Steve was receiving. Hearing Officer [Judge] has give Martha 60 days to provide additional information and showing a link between Agent Orange and Steve's passing. I have provided testimony about Steve flying with Snake Doctor and being on the ground in defoliated areas for recovery missions.Need others to E-mail emarthaknox@comcast.net to help establish link with his cancers and Agent Orange. Brain cancer is not on the presumptive list and only first hand accounts and info concerning others who have similar situations will sway the Judge toward an award for Steve's family. Rattler 1 has forwarded a list of cancer and unknown causes of death to her, but we need to give Martha as much info as we can possibly provide to demonstrate a link and commonality in Steves case. All help is appreciated! Thanx Glenn

Enough time has passed and a few have been blamed, but I'll set the record straight. In Chuck Gross's(RATTLER ONE-SEVEN) book, on page43 about a pilot too drunk to fly. That was me....yes...all the other times I flew I was too sober!

Got my copy of "Vietnam War Helicopter Art" by John Brennan. Hot off the press. The 71st Company sign is shown along with the nose cone off Snake Doctor. And of course my tribute "Aquarius" is shown. As you look through the book you'll notice a lot of song titles. It's worth buying, has some great art.
