Michael Bird died as a result of a tragic incident that could have happened to almost any of us. A one time quick draw horseplay on the flight line that forever altered the life of a real good man and ended the life of another. RIP!
MIKE BIRD WAS A FRIEND OF MINE, WE WERE BOTH GUNNERS BUT IN DIFFERENT PLATOONS. IT WAS A TRAGIC ACCIDENT THAT ENDED HIS LIFE AFTER ALL THE COMBAT HE HAD SEEN. HE WAS AN INFANTRY MAN AND WAS IN THE FIELD FOR ALMOST 9 MONTHS, WAS ALSO A SNIPER. HE USE TO GO OUT IN INDIAN COUNTRY WITH ANOTHER GUY FOR TWO WEEKS AT A TIME AND KILL THE BAD GUYES.HE SAW A LOT OF COMBAT. WE WERE SCHEDULED TO GO HOME TOGETHER ON THE SAME FLIGHT OCTOBER 23, 1967 AND I DIDN”T REALIZE UNTILL THIS DAY THAT THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN HIS 20TH BIRTHDAY.HE WAS A GOOD MAN AND A GREAT SOLDIER. I’LL NEVER FORGET HIM
I am his niece who never got to meet him. My dad was his brother, which I have not seen in 16 years. I have no contact with my family on that side since I was 5 and my grandfather pasted away if any one can give me information on my family or michael or even what kind of person he was and what he was like please email at gemini1411@hotmail.com thank you.
Brittainy can no longer get email at the above email address and would appreciate any information that any one has to be sent to my email address. She is looking for any information on Michael so that she can get to know what kind of person he was. She is pregnant and if this child is a boy she is going to name his middle name after Michael in memory of him. My email address is mylinda_s@yahoo.com. Thank you very much.
Just found out about it a few years ago. Never had a chance to meet him
Been thinking a lot about you lately. Even though we never met I know you were a wonderful man. You have not been forgot and one of my sons will carry on your last name and papas. Your father loved you more than you will ever know. I thank you and all who served for doing all you did, I know you lost your life and I wish that could be changed but I want you to know you are part of the reason my children can live with freedom and feel safe. All gave some and some gave all so i salute you. You will always be remembered by me and my family even if others have abounded you and forgot about you i can promise my husband children my mom and me will never forget you or your father.
He was a lot of fun to get to know.
He was my gunner when he came from the 25th Inf.
Never had a problem with him he knew what was suppose to happen and was good at it.
A well liked individual, I was not flying that horrible day.
