Gordie and I were from Seattle; our birthdays were 3 days apart; we turned 20 together but at the time it did not seem like a big deal.
Gordie liked all his fellow service members; he went out of his way to keep track of others and try to help when he could. He said often that his service in the military was the best time of his life and he always wanted to be with vets.
We lost touch after we returned home. But he continued his life with his veteran brother, Gary, and Chris Palmer, who was also from Seattle and in our unit.
Gordie helped Chris during his cancer treatments and was with him when he passed on.
Gordie and I spent time together after we found each other in 2008. We travelled Washington State and showed each other what we learned in our post military careers.
I still miss him. He was a great friend and a fun companion.
