Accident Summary:

The lower left longeron failed at the battery shelf, at approximately station 243.8 while on short final. The tail section separated from the fuselage. The main fuselage continued on spinning and throwing men from the aircraft. The main rotor blade cut through the cockpit. The aircraft struck the ground and rolled several times. Analysis revealed the structural failure due to wear caused by the battery shelf
