Comment: Mike was in the second platoon (F Troop)and scheduled crew assignments in addition to his AC duties. He had a great sense of humor, so he was fun to fly with.
Mike earned a Purple Heart in an odd situation. His aircraft took a hit with an incendiary round which struck the bottom of his seat, was deflected, and grazed his leg. He suffered a slight burn, but no additional damage. He tried to refuse the award, but everyone agreed that he earned it.
I never saw him after I left the 71st, but hoped he might come to a reunion. I was sorry to learn of his death - he was one of those people who enjoyed life. It was an honor to have known him,
