Leo J. Tetreault

Date: April 16, 2009

Leo J. Tetreault, 83, of Sun City, Fla.; formerly of Milford, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 17, at the James A. Haley Veteran's Hospital in Tampa, Fla. He was born in Lowell, Mass., on June 15, 1925. He was the son of the late Marie Perron of Boxford, Mass.
As a young man, it was Leo's dream to join the Army, and he did so in 1949. He served his country in the United States Army for 26 years, retiring in 1975 as Chief Warrant Officer IV. He served several tours of duty all over the world including post World War II, Austria; Fort Benning, Ga.; Fort Richardson, Ark.; Fort Meade, Md.; Fort Monmouth, N.J.; Fort Devens, Mass.; Stuttgart, W. Germany; and Fort Stewart, Ga. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam at Ben Hoa and Chu Lai. He was respected and held in high regard among his colleagues and was highly decorated, including three Bronze Star medals, three air medals and numerous Army commendation medals. He was a proud and dedicated soldier who believed in commitment to the Army, his country and his family.
Leo enjoyed many hobbies including travel, boating, fishing, bowling, cooking, gardening, western movies, cards and board games. He was a "jack-of-all- trades." His children and grandchildren remember him as the one to call if something needed to be fixed, repaired, built, put together or otherwise "figured out." He was also an avid and committed Red Sox fan, and enjoyed watching and attending Red Sox games with his wife and family. Though a man of few words, he had a great sense of humor and a calm, gentle manner.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hazel Tetreault of Sun City Center; three sons, Steven Tetreault and his wife, Debbie of Lawton, Okla., Curt Tetreault and his wife Janet of Apollo Beach, Fla., and Allan Tetreault and his wife Amy of Churchville, N.Y.; one daughter, Marcey Phillips-Haridy and her husband, Hatem Haridy of Nashua; a stepson, Michael Meyer and his family of Beverly, Mass.; 13 grandchildren, Susan, Sherry, Tyler, Jackson, Sarah, Brooke, Josiah, Daniel, Timothy, Matthew, David, Andrew and Katherine; and one great-grandson, Koby. He will be eternally loved and missed as a husband, dad, papa, puppy and friend.
There are no calling hours at this time. Leo was cremated in Sun City Center, Florida and will remain with his beloved wife, Hazel, until June 2009, when his life will be honored and celebrated with a military funeral at the Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
Condolences may be sent to his wife Hazel at 811 Fox Hills Drive, Sun City Center, FL, 33573-5128.
